Philanthropy and culture of giving in Georgia and Moldova

The rationale

The project aims to examine philanthropy environments in today’ Georgia and Moldova among wide public and representatives of CSOs. The research will emphasize on giving to formal or informal civil organizations and initiatives.

Data collected through online surveys in Moldova and Georgia will be analyzed based on similar criteria, and findings and suggestions about civic philanthropy perspectives to be produced by the international team. This valuable conclusions and database will be presented at the international online conference to the donors, partners, CSO/NGOs and civil activists.

 

Expected results:

  • Philanthropy attitudes studied and compared in Georgia and Moldova;
  • Main constraints and opportunities identified;
  • Lessons learned, findings and recommendations formulated and could be used internationally;
  • Results of the study could be converted into learning materials for grass-root NGOs and civil activist trainings, and later may be transformed in more academic educational modules;
  • Donors get a better picture of local crowdfunding opportunities and focus of international investments;

Online survey will focus on:

  • What topic among civil initiatives people see as worth to be supported;
  • What is the main decision-maker argument to donate?
  • What is seen as constraint to donate?
  • What form of supporting civil initiatives is more comfortable for them?
  • Do they (the population) know the methods/platforms for online donation?
  • Do they know about the 2% mechanism? Do they use it or not?

 CSO/NGO-s survey will focus on:

  •  Do they ever/how often have use crowdfunding for their initiatives? Why?
  • Do they ever/how often have use crowdfunding to support their core budget? Why?
  • What do they think are the main reasons why people donate or not donate to particular cause?
  • What percentage of their budget is formed of individual donations from the population/crowdfunding?

 Outputs and Outcomes

  • Development of two types of questionnaires in English/Georgian/Romanian languages for wide public and CSO/NGOs representatives in cooperation with
  • Setting up of online survey promotion plan through social networks and informational web-sites
  • Conducting of online survey throughout June/July 2021 simultaneously in Georgia and Moldova;
  • Conducting of specific survey within CSO/NGOs online;
  • Collection and systematization of the survey data;
  • Analysis of surveys’ data;
  • Organization of the results’ discussion panel with national NGOs and informal civil activists (online);
  • Negotiations with international experts for the final international conference
  • Production of project final report and infographics for the event;
  • Presentation of findings and recommendations at the international online conference;
  • Submission of the final report and future developments vision to the donor and counterparts.
